How can a space truly adapt to the person who will live there?
This is the question that inspired the interior design project carried out by the Saglietti Group in Bene Vagienna. The project involved the design of custom-made furniture tailored to the client’s daily needs, with a specific goal: to transform every room into a
space that is easy to live in, functional, and designed to promote maximum independence.
In this case, design was not merely an aesthetic exercise but a tool for solving concrete problems. Every design decision—from the dimensions of the furniture to the opening mechanisms, right down to the integration of the building systems—stemmed from the observation of actual movements and the desire to eliminate any obstacles to the day-to-day use of the home.
An interior design project centered on people
Every custom design project requires a different approach.
Even before deciding on materials, colors, and finishes, we studied how the client used the rooms, analyzing the space available for movement, the necessary distances, and the critical areas of the home.
This
phase of listening allowed us to transform every need into a concrete solution, demonstrating that designing custom furniture isn’t simply about creating personalized pieces, but about building truly functional spaces.
The Kitchen: When the Cabinet Meets the Person's Needs
Traditional wall-mounted cabinets, in fact, are difficult to use when they remain fixed to the wall. That’s why we’ve developed a motorized system capable of completely transforming the way the cabinet is used.
As it descends, the
cabinet doesn’t simply lower;
it performs an arc-shaped movement that brings it 19 centimeters closer to the user while lowering by 42 centimeters.
This way, plates, glasses, and utensils arrive directly in front of the user, eliminating the need to lean over the countertop. The entire system was designed during the construction phase in collaboration with the MEP contractors, incorporating dedicated passages for the motor cables and a technical side panel capable of completely concealing the mechanical structure, thereby maintaining the kitchen’s clean aesthetic.
The mechanism also incorporates a safety sensor that immediately stops the movement upon detecting any obstacle.
Every centimeter is the result of careful design
The kitchen perfectly embodies our approach to interior design.
The countertop has been lowered to 77 centimeters, the sink is a fully custom-made stainless steel unit, and the range hood can be controlled via remote.
Even the small coffee corner has been designed for front-facing use, transforming an everyday task into a simple, intuitive, and accessible experience.
These aren't isolated details; they're the expression of a
design approach that starts with people and extends to the furnishings.
The Sleeping Area: Ergonomics, Technology, and Freedom of Movement
The same principle guided the design of the bedroom.
The closet was raised off the floor to allow for front-to-front access, while the pull-down systems installed inside make it easy to reach the clothes.
The bed was also designed with careful consideration of the transfer from a wheelchair. After numerous tests, the ideal height was determined, allowing for a completely independent transfer without the need for additional support.
Behind the room’s seamless aesthetic lie numerous technical features, such as the soundproof compartment for the heat pump, which is fully integrated into the cabinetry.
Interior design means designing even what you can't see
One of the least visible but most important aspects concerns
the integration of the systems.
In the living area, the electrical system has been completely redesigned to make all outlets easily accessible; they are integrated directly into the desk via dedicated top-access ports.
The home’s ventilation system has also been carefully designed. Behind the lower drawers of the bookcase, a system has been installed that ensures proper air circulation without compromising the furniture’s aesthetic appeal.
These are invisible details, but they exemplify the technical expertise that goes into every one of our projects.
