{"id":281514,"date":"2025-11-14T10:32:22","date_gmt":"2025-11-14T09:32:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sagliettigroup.it\/hypogeum-setup-for-la-tana-delle-marmotte-skyway-mont-blanc-pavillon\/"},"modified":"2026-03-13T16:38:04","modified_gmt":"2026-03-13T15:38:04","slug":"hypogeum-setup-for-la-tana-delle-marmotte-skyway-mont-blanc-pavillon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sagliettigroup.it\/en\/hypogeum-setup-for-la-tana-delle-marmotte-skyway-mont-blanc-pavillon\/","title":{"rendered":"Hypogeum setup for La Tana delle Marmotte &#8211; Skyway Mont Blanc, Pavillon"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"article-section\">\n<p>At an <strong>altitude of 2173 meters<\/strong>, in the middle station of the <strong>Pavillon<\/strong> &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.montebianco.com\/it\"><strong>Skyway Mont Blanc<\/strong><\/a> &#8211; takes shape <i><strong>The Groundhogs&#8217; Den<\/strong><\/i>: a <strong>hypogean play and educational project<\/strong> designed to <strong>educate and engage children and families<\/strong> within an<strong>immersive sensory experience<\/strong>.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/sagliettigroup.it\/en\/\"><strong>Saglietti Group<\/strong><\/a> oversaw the <strong>technical implementation of the structure<\/strong>, working under <strong>extreme environmental conditions<\/strong>, with dedicated logistics and timelines constrained by the arrival of snow.<\/p>\n<div class=\"spacer\"><\/div>\n<h2>An underground setting between narrative, technique and altitude<\/h2>\n<h3>Building underground, at 2173 meters<\/h3>\n<p>The project stems from a call for proposals promoted by <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.montebianco.com\/it\">Funivie Monte Bianco S.p.A.<\/a><\/strong>, with the design signed by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.officina82.com\/\"><strong>Officina82<\/strong><\/a>. The objective:<br \/>\n<strong>Create an educational and sensory space<\/strong> capable of telling the story of the life of the <strong>alpine marmot<\/strong>, through <strong>sounds<\/strong>, <strong>educational panels<\/strong>,<br \/>\n<strong>child-friendly paths<\/strong> and a<strong>scenic exit<\/strong> via a <strong>transparent dome<\/strong> emerging from the ground.<\/p>\n<p>Implementation required non-standard operational management:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Materials and people transported to altitude by helicopter and cable car<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>On-site assembly<\/strong> by Saglietti Group technical team at a permanent construction site for one month, between October and November 2024<\/li>\n<li><strong>Daily management of adverse weather conditions<\/strong>: fog, wind, rain, mud, and cold temperatures<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Each activity was planned <strong>according to the cable car schedule and the imminent arrival of snow<\/strong>.<br \/>\nThe construction site was completed on schedule, allowing the project to open before the seasonal closure.<\/p>\n<div class=\"spacer\"><\/div>\n<h2>Technology, wood and steel for an immersive experience<\/h2>\n<h3>Parametric design and playful certification<\/h3>\n<p>The heart of the project is an <strong>8-meter-long corten steel underground pipe<\/strong>, <strong>cut into sections and assembled directly at height.<\/strong><br \/>\nThe external structure, <strong>self-healing<\/strong> and <strong>perfectly integrated into the alpine landscape<\/strong>, was welded in situ by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nuovasicmi.it\/\"><strong>Nuova Sicmi Srl<\/strong><\/a>,<br \/>\nthen <strong>buried by taking advantage of the natural slope of the land<\/strong> (about 27\u00b0).<\/p>\n<p>A <strong>second glulam structure<\/strong>, <strong>designed in 3D<\/strong> to reduce time and margin of error, was inserted inside. Its features: <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>14 modular layers<\/strong> for more than 300 machined parts<\/li>\n<li><strong>Three-ply<\/strong> (4 cm) <strong>spruce cladding<\/strong>, treated with fire retardant paint<\/li>\n<li><strong>Two entrances<\/strong>: one for adults (\u00f8 2.20 m), one for children (\u00f8 1.30 m)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Transparent plexiglass dome<\/strong> (2 x 1.10 m)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Forced ventilation, flexible LED lighting, audio speakers, educational panels<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Contoured interior steps<\/strong> to accompany the pathway<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Particular attention was paid to <strong>safety and play regulations<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Risk assessment<\/li>\n<li>Foam and faux leather covers for impact surfaces<\/li>\n<li>Certified materials<\/li>\n<li>Spaces that conform to inclusive play<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"spacer\"><\/div>\n<h2>A technical project with an educational soul<\/h2>\n<p>Inside the Burrow, visitors are accompanied by the <strong>narrative voice of <i>Otta<\/i><\/strong>, a <strong>marmot guide<\/strong> who narrates habits, habitat, hibernation and feeding.<br \/>\n<strong>Curved transparent vitrines<\/strong> accommodate life-size reproductions of the animal, integrating into the hypogeal setting.<\/p>\n<p>The project targets a <strong>cross-sectional audience<\/strong>, keeping the<strong>child&#8217;s experience<\/strong> at the center but with a <strong>narrative and constructive framework<\/strong> that can be read by adults as well.<\/p>\n<p>The intervention was possible thanks to the synergy between several parties:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.officina82.com\/\"><strong>Officina82<\/strong><\/a> &#8211; <strong>Lara Sappa and Fabio Revetria<\/strong> &#8211; for design and art direction<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.montebianco.com\/it\"><strong>Funivie Monte Bianco Spa<\/strong><\/a>, promoter and developer of the work<\/li>\n<li><strong>The Saglietti Group operations team<\/strong>, present at high altitude for the duration of the site: Alessio Giacone, Daria Bergese, Ciko, Sofian and Daniele<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"spacer\"><\/div>\n<h2>Do you have an elevation or depth project?
